Arlo is a lifelong athlete with a passion for challenging himself and others to excel. He has spent over 20 years as the owner of Competitive Edge Fitness, training and providing bodywork for all levels of athletes, from junior high school, to recreational, to professional, to world record holders.
Arlo graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Performance and also from Myotherapy College of Utah. While at Weber State, Arlo played for the WSU Men's Volleyball Club, and later returned as an assistant coach for the WSU Women's Volleyball Team for one season. Arlo is a Licensed Massage Therapist, an NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NSCA Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator, Certified Sports Injury Specialist, and Certified Core Training Specialist. As a massage therapist, Arlo specializes in treating acute and chronic pain using primarily myofascial and structural modalities.
Arlo is author of "Art of Lift-Jitsu: An Unconventional Approach to Extraordinary Strength" (winner of the 2025 International Impact Book Award in the fitness category), "Battle Tested: How to Train Like Your Life Depends On It", "Warrior Core: Core Training Secrets for the Modern Combat Athlete", and many articles in various magazines and peer reviewed journals. In addition to writing, Arlo also hosts the "Dabbling in Discomfort Podcast".
